Montecucco Sangiovese Riserva Cenere 2008

Intense ruby-red color with garnet shades. Elegant and fine bouquet, with scents of currants and blackberries accompanied by well-balanced spices. Hints of leather and licorice complete the scent, where important tertiary notes gain prominence. In the mouth, it presents great structure, with fine and strong tannins. Earthy shades, which are typical of the grape variety, add to a warm and charming sensation, which is completed with a long persistence, sustained by a good acidity that gives vivacity and freshness to the whole product.

The comment of our oenologist

Cenere Riserva 2008: a vintage where the expression of wines in Tuscany is particularly classic and this wine reflects that character. Longer aging than for the Lavico, therefore there are less components of fruity sweetness in the wine making it austere, but not old-fashioned. A classic wine, though the great knowledge and attention in aging is explicit. This wine comes from a very important terroir, the production per stem is particularly low, and the wine has good balance. Please serve in a glass with a big cup.

On the slopes of the Amiata Mount, in southern Tuscany and more specifically in the high Maremma. To the west of Amiata, under the extreme layers of the volcanic cone and where the territory declines from 500 to 200 m, the terroir acquires unique aspects due to the great interaction of natural and human factors. The agricultural landscape is the result of a long human work: with the exception of a few areas covered with woods, oaks, turkey oaks and holm oaks, areas never agriculturally used because of their excessive incline most of the territory is divided in arable fields with irregular edges and in vineyards and olive trees with more regular geometric shapes. Clay-schistose terroirs, erodible and cut through by various streams, show a wavy pace in a sequence of valleys and plains. While the sandstone formations, more consistent, define the knolls on which the medieval villages were formed (Montegiovi, Montelaterone and Seggiano). Mild, mediterranean weather, with the influence of the volcano. Remarkable day-night temperature excursions.
