Montecucco Sangiovese Lavico 2009

Amiata

Crimson red color with a tendency to ruby, strong and impenetrable. Intense and complex perfumes of vanilla and sweet tobacco, supported by blackberries, raspberry and Vignola cherry marmelade. It keeps opening with the typical scents of the fruit, ending up being ethereal. Spices are remarkable. The taste denotes important structure, warmth and long persistence. Pleasant tannic attack, accompanied by freshness and flavor. The closure is consistent with what the nose has revealed.

The comment of our oenologist

Lavico 2009: a vintage that gave Tuscany gentle wines, though without character. On the other hand, we have here a wine with light perfumes, where the mineral is already perceivable in the nose and the taste is vigorous, yet light. There is no pulp, nor heaviness. It is a well-sustained wine that enhances through decanting. The ideal glass for this wine has a medium sized cup, and a mouth that is not too big so as to keep the mineral strength under control.

Terroir
On the slopes of the Amiata Mount, in southern Tuscany and more specifically in the high Maremma. To the west of Amiata, under the extreme layers of the volcanic cone and where the territory declines from 500 to 200 m, the terroir acquires unique aspects due to the great interaction of natural and human factors. The agricultural landscape is the result of a long human work: with the exception of a few areas covered with woods, oaks, turkey oaks and holm oaks, areas never agriculturally used because of their excessive incline most of the territory is divided in arable fields with irregular edges and in vineyards and olive trees with more regular geometric shapes. Clay-schistose terroirs, erodible and cut through by various streams, show a wavy pace in a sequence of valleys and plains. While the sandstone formations, more consistent, define the knolls on which the medieval villages were formed (Montegiovi, Montelaterone and Seggiano). Mild, mediterranean weather, with the influence of the volcano. Remarkable day-night temperature excursions.
