Varvàra 2011

Castello di Bolgheri

The Varvàra ‏2011 vintage is particularly rich in fabric, however poor, regarding the yields per plant. To the nose, this wine is fully aromatic, with a hint of dark berries. The taste is very smooth, harmonic with a full fruity aroma, leaving a good after-taste behind. The Varvàra is a Cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. A highly drinkable wine, with an ample and elegant bouquet, where prominence is given to the fruit.

The comment of our oenologist

Varvàra = the second wine? No! Since 2008, it is a great wine, but with less tannic weight and more fruit/mineral balance than the Castello di Bolgheri. However, Varvarà is an expressive wine that does not make territorial compromises nor follows current wine trends. A tasty wine that should be drunk in a rather big glass.

Castello di Bolgheri

Tuscany coast; Bolgheri is a small land of 1100 hectars (current DOC size). Bordeaux vines find here their fullest expression, the Sangiovese has almost been abandoned. Calcareous loamy soil, slightly basic pH, deep soil rich on carcass. Mediterranean climate with a significant influence of the sea: mild and dry weather; the proximity to the sea grants constant temperatures.
Grape variety
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah

Cultivation Method
Vinification & Aging
Long aging, 16 months, mainly in Barrique and partly in 500 liter drums. Approximately 20% of new wood, a greater proportion of older vintages (wood), on the search for further precision and aromatic finesse. Bottled in March 2013.
Analytical Data
Production: 60.000 bottles. Alcohol: 14,5% vol.
