ARS VINUM - THE ART OF WINE Organically produced boutique wines from Italy

Barbera d'Alba La Sconsolata 2011

Cantina del Glicine

The Barbera is a widespread vine in Piedmont and produces wines with different characteristics, based on the production area. Due to an old local tradition, 10-15% of Nebbiolo from Barbaresco grapes are added during the fermentation to make the wine softer and to enhance its perfumes. Dry, frisky and pleasantly sour. Intense ruby red color that tends to garnet with time. Vinous perfume. Fruity when young.

The comment of our oenologist

A barbera with a hint (15%) of nebbiolo, defined as a barbera nebbioleggiante. In the nose, this wine has is crisp, an explosion of fruit compared to the Barbera 5 Vigne or from Cascian Luisin, this wine is much closer to a Pinot Noir: floral and balsamic. One can create this effect by a long aging in wood. A wine with an exceptional lightness and strength of taste, however, there is no excess of neither sweetness nor substance. To be served in a medium-large glass and paired with flavorful pasta dishes of the Piedmontese kitchen. However, due to the tannins, this delicious wine can easily be combined with many other dishes.
