ARS VINUM - THE ART OF WINE Organically produced boutique wines from Italy

Brunello di Montalcino 2008

Brunello di Montalcino is the company's top wine and is produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes. Since 1978, cultivated with extreme care and agronomic attention. After prolonged fermentation of the grapes on the skins, the wine matures for three years in Slavonian oak barrels of 30 hl. Afterwards, the wine ages at least for another six months in bottles before being released to the market. The wine is clear, with a ruby red color tending to a rather strong garnet. It has an intense perfume, persistent, characteristic and elegant, with hints of red fruit and light vanilla. The Brunello di Montalcino has a good structure taste with great tannins, an elegant and harmonic wine with a long aromatic persistence.

The comment of our oenologist

Brunello di Montalcino is a blend of three vineyards, all growing above 400 m of altitude. Vigna Fornello provides the fruit volume and the fleshiness. Castelnuovo, a vineyard located above Sant'Antimo Abbey, adds the tannic and classic components due to the particularly dry and Mediterranean area. Growing on terracings with a south-west exposure at an altitude of 500 m, Pietroso contributes the thin perfumes and the acid strength. The blend of these three vineyards is a complete wine, with such a balance that it seems to supersede the limits of the Brunello. Classic in its cut, however not overblown, nor oxydative like many other wines of the same denomination.

Vineyard in three different areas of the municipality Montalcino, a balanced product even in vintages with particular climatic conditions. Very suitable terroirs, rich in cancass, high quality grapes due to the constant and careful manual work, the green pruning and the thinning-out of the clusters. The altitude varies from 350 to 450 m over sea level; this allows a gradual maturation of the grapes, in order to in the nowadays ever warmer and dryer summers prolong the beginning of the harvest to the first week of October. Soil rich in clay and marl. Windy and dry weather, excellent sun exposure, and an extremely favorable microclimate.
