Merla della Miniera 2011

Terenzuola

The local name of this vine is derived from the blackbird (Italian: Merla), which because of the rich color and the sugar of the grapes usually eats the Merla grapes. Intense ruby red color with violet hues. Ample aromas of wild berries, cherries, sweet spices and hints of pepper and cinnamon. In the mouth it is full, warm, full-bodied, soft and perfectly tannic. This wine is intense and persistent, and closes again with delicate shades of spices and flavors of blueberries.

The comment of our oenologist

The Merla della Miniera, Canaiolo Nero and Colorino are vines that one also finds in the Chianti – however they almost disappeared. Vineyards that were included in the "receipt" for the Chianti Classico again, these varieties were abandoned but one could say that they were abandoned for a reason, as on the calcareous-clay soil, they do not demonstrate elegance. On these mineral soils, Canaiolo has a fantastic expression, it is spicy, almost like a Shiraz del Rodano. Dynamic and bare in the mouth, with a sustained closure. Not an easy wine, as there is no sweetness, it is however very harmonic and elegant.
