ARS VINUM - THE ART OF WINE Organically produced boutique wines from Italy

Piediferro 2006

Villa Terlina

The blending of three autochthonous vines of the region creates a wine of great longevity and complexity. Barbera carries the softness and the volume; Nebbiolo and Uvalino add the tannic structure and the aromatic complexity. The wine requires a long aging in the bottle to smooth out the tannins, to reveal the aromas that speak of violets, rosemary and lavender. Harsh and difficult in the beginning, it develops great elegance with age.

The comment of our oenologist

Piediferro is a recent project with the Nebbiolo grape variety in combination with a very long aging process, to obtain an absolute classy wine. The 2006 vintage was bottled at the end of summer in 2013; it immediately shows the noble character of the vine. This wine is never excessive and should be served in a big cup to enjoy all the mineral, both in the nose and in the mouth. A less tannic Nebbiolo than the Barbaresco, however with a similar value as far as consistency is concerned. One should lightly decant it to obtain its maximum expression in this young phase, while in less than a year this wine will probably have reached a perfect balance, so that one will not have to decant it anymore.

Villa Terlina

Hill area to the south-east of Agliano Terme, in the heart of the Piedmont. The geological rise of Miocene has created a particular terroir, which is reflected in the wines' qualities. This structure of the soil creates an optimal hydric regulation and at the same time is the basis of the uniqueness of Villa Terlina's wines: well-structured, elegant, mineral, with a wide aromatic and taste range. Calcareous-marly soils on a layer of crystal chalky rock. Dry continental weather.
